Original Watercolor and collage 36 X 22 Côté Cour

During one of my #Urbex explorations  I entered a severely damaged building tucked within a still-elegant neighborhood of Achrafieh.

I’m drawn to the idea that, no matter the house or apartment, if it was built between roughly 1880 and 1930, it follows the same floor plan and layout. I find my bearings immediately and can easily navigate from the central hall to the surrounding rooms. There is often a double archway — one facing the street, the other opening onto the courtyard. The light and degree of decay vary depending on sun exposure. I wanted to paint both interiors of this apartment, where the turquoise walls catch the light so beautifully.

To add depth, I incorporated salvaged marquetry fragments, dried flowers from my garden, and vintage papers.
