Original watercolor and mixed media The golden Souk

"It seems that there is in the brain a very specific area that could be called poetic memory, which records what has charmed us, what has moved us, what gives our life its beauty." Kundera. Perhaps it is this poetic memory that made me want to paint these multicolored arches, where one wanders and lingers, where one smokes a hookah or negotiates a carpet—images I have encountered so many times during my travels in the Middle East. I have punctuated this souk with gold leaf and collages to bring it even more to life.
