Collage

Using collage is like stepping into another dimension—the realm of dreams and fantasy—where hands flit swiftly between papers, scissors, and a craft knife. It’s about telling stories through layers: a layer of paint; a layer of paper; perhaps a layer of gold; a scrap of marquetry; a scattering of dried flowers… Everything comes alive and takes on a new life, and often a sense of joy takes over as the eye darts from right to left across the watercolor, delighting in discovering a detail, trying to follow the thread. Collage also allows me to tell poignant stories, where the inclusion of a piece of gold silk in a watercolor softens the gravity of the subject.
